After looking at Tagame's newest italian translation samples of Virtus on his website, I was stunned.
Fuck commercial comics actually do replace SFX.
Well they probably have an easier time of it since Tagame probably sends them photoshop files with all the SFX layers intact. Which is SO much easier to replace.
I've decided to do SFX replacement à la Enorn, and now I understand why he doesn't have enough time.
Just replacing TWO SFXs took me up to ~1 hour. Granted I'm still continually discovering methods for SFX replacement, so hopefully it'll get faster, but still.....
That said I'm quite happy with my results, so that's probably what I will do for the future.
Although honestly speaking, why doesn't Tagame just freaking release his comics in English? It'll make it so much easier on the rest of us. =(
EDIT: ok I have come to the bitter conclusion that I cannot replace the SFX, not without taking an inordinate amount of time. I've done 4 images with SFX replacement, but for the rest of the chapter I'll add the SFX translations by the side, the same way as for chapter 12. Sorry for the incredibly retarded inconsistency. Sigh.
You're to be commended for taking time to do the translations at *all*. Nobody expects the Japanese SFX to be perfectly edited from the scans. In fact, I personally don't care. I can guess at the sounds. -- Usually it's *thwack* *thwack* *thwack* ;) -- What I can't understand is the dialog, and that's what matters most. Is there anyway I can help speed up the process of translating some of his other works? Like, Father and Son in Hell (great comic) or The Echoes (been wanting to read that one for years). Just let me know what I can do.
ReplyDeleteHey its me. Wonder what's going on with Woody's adult forum host board? He's been coffee breaking for over half a year now.
ReplyDeleteWhat skills does an editor need?
Skills for an editor? Truthfully not much. An image editing program like photoshop, some comic fonts on hand and that's pretty much all an editor will need.
ReplyDeleteThe coffee break problem lies with adultforumhost, not Woody. That said I haven't got a reply from Woody via email, so I suppose he's been coffee breaking too. The forum problem is the predominant reason why I chose to start this blog. You can check out the main site for more details.
The summer holidays start next week, after the end of my exams this week, so I should be able to release Chapter 13 soon. I do apologize for the delay, I look forward as much as anyone else to finishing this series.
